Treatment
  1. CANCERFAX;rm. This service allows access to NCI's Physician's Data Query (PDQ) system (see entry below) via fax machine, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at no charge other than the charge for the fax call. Two versions of the treatment information are available: one for health care professionals and the other for patients, family or the general public. Information also available in Spanish. To obtain instructions and list of necessary codes call (301) 402-5874. If there are problems with the fax, call (800) 624-7890 or, obtain code information by phone through the Cancer Information Service, (800) 4-CANCER or on the Web, cancernet.nci.nih.gov.
     
  2. CANCER TRIALS is a new, updated NCI resource on the Web that is all about clinical trials for cancer. It is easy to use and navigate, and was designed to help users find and choose a treatment trial, and offers news about research discoveries. Go to cancertrials.nci.nih.gov (no "www." is necessary).
     
  3. COMMUNITY CLINICAL ONCOLOGY PROGRAM ("CCOP"). These 75 medical centers in 30 states have been selected by the National Cancer Institute to participate in a program to introduce the newest clinical protocols and to accrue patients to clinical trials. NCI's CIS, (800) 4-CANCER or www.nci.nih.gov.
     
  4. PDQ (PHYSICIAN DATA QUERY). The computerized cancer database of the NCI, providing information on treatment, organizations, doctors involved in cancer care and a listing of more than 1,500 clinical trials that are open to patient accrual. Access by computer equipped with a modem and by fax. For more information, call the NCI's CIS at (800) 4-CANCER or on the Internet, cancernet.nci.nih.gov (no "www." is necessary).
     
  5. TAKING PART IN CLINICAL TRIALS: WHAT CANCER PATIENTS NEED TO KNOW (98-4250, 1998). A booklet designed for patients who are considering participating in cancer treatment trials. It explains clinical trials to patients in easy-to-understand terms and gives information that will help them to reach an appropriate decision. Includes a glossary. 18 pages. Also available in Spanish. NCI's CIS, (800) 4-CANCER.
     
  6.  The NCI's PDQ database offers extensive information on treatment trials (see page 13). Information is available by phone at (800) 4-CANCER, fax at (301) 402-5874, or on the Web at cancertrials.nci.nih.gov. You may request English or Spanish, and formats designed for patients and for professionals.
