Take the National Cancer Institutes On-line Risk Assessment Test

1.  Follow American Cancer Society recommended guidelines

      -mammography

      -clinical breast exam

      -breast self-exam

2. Exercise (3-4 hours/week)

3. Limit alcohol intake (2-3 drinks/week) and fat intake (less than 20% of your calories should be fat)

4. Watch your weight

5. Incorporate specific food groups into your diet

    Leafy green (cruciferous) vegetables,  such as broccoli, brussel sprout and mustard greens

    Soy (isoflavones) ** speak with your doctor about recommendations if you have had breast cancer

    Bran (30grams/day)           

    Flaxseeds (if you're using the seeds, chew thoroughly to get the full nutritional benefit)

6. Discuss genetic counseling with your physician if you have a strong family history of breast/ovarian cancer

7. Discuss hormone replacement therapy with your physician if you have been on for a prolonged period of time (i.e. >10 years)
