Your doctors office should give you pre-operative instructions on preparing for surgery. The ones we use in our office can be printed
out. Please feel free to do so. You may have a drain. Drain teaching should be done at the doctors office and again in the Recovery Room so that you feel comfortable going home with the drain and emptying and recording the
contents yourself. If you are on medication, discuss whether this should be taken the morning of surgery with your doctor. Remember to ask your physician if you need to bring any films with you the day of surgery, and if you
need a friend or family member to accompany you home. Generally, with any type of sedation, it is a requirement. You may want to ask if you can bring a walkman into the OR. |
