Both the core technique and the vacuum assisted device are useful in determining whether a cancer is limited to the ducts (non-invasive or in-situ) vs. invasive or infiltrating cancer (infiltrating beyond the ducts.) This cannot be determined using the fine needle or skinny needle technique.
